January 16 Will Show Difference Between Obi, Tinubu – Keyamo
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has taken a swipe at former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over their political trajectories.
Keyamo, in a post responding to comments by Obi, contrasted what he described as a politician who built political parties and structures from the grassroots with another who allegedly seeks presidential tickets from parties he did not build.
He said the difference between the two trajectories would become evident on January 16, 2027.
“Some nitwits are comparing a man who has built parties and structures over the years from scratch up to produce Presidents and majority in government, including going through gruelling Primaries to emerge candidate at governorship and Presidential levels, to a character who goes about begging for tickets every now and then from strange political parties he never built and characters he does not even know. Sad. Very sad, indeed,” Keyamo wrote.

He added, “January 16, 2027 will show the difference between these trajectories.”
Using boxing as an analogy, the minister said political actors should operate within their perceived political weight.
“In boxing, there are weight classes, from straw weight to heavy weight. You don’t go boxing above your weight,” he added.
Keyamo’s comments followed Obi’s remarks at the 2026 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference in Enugu, where the NDC presidential candidate said President Bola Tinubu had his respect and that he would not abuse the President or any other political office holder.
Obi said political disagreements should focus on policies, decisions and performance rather than personal attacks.
“I cannot abuse any governor. I cannot abuse anybody in government. I don’t need to abuse people even in federal government. I’ve never abused anybody. Who has seen me calling President Tinubu’s name? Never! I will not do that. He’s the President of the country, he has all my respect,” Obi said.
He, however, maintained that respecting public office holders should not prevent citizens and the media from scrutinising their decisions and performance.
