Obasanjo-Atiku Political Rivalry Spans Generation – Sani
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the long-running political feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing their rivalry as one that has endured for more than two decades.
Reacting to the renewed war of words between the two political heavyweights, Sani said the disagreement began when members of Generation Z were still in nursery and primary school and has continued even after many of them graduated from university, got married and started raising families.
“The OBJ/Atiku feud began when the Gen Zs were in nursery and primary school. It’s continuing even when that generation had graduated from universities and married with children. It’s likely going to continue until one of them is gone and the other will pay a glowing tribute,” Sani wrote.

The former lawmaker added that the exchanges between the former allies have intensified over the years, likening their verbal attacks to powerful weapons.
“Since Atiku threw a devastating bomb on OBJ, he has been receiving OBJ’s hypersonic missiles for two decades,” he stated.
Sani’s remarks come amid a fresh exchange of accusations between Obasanjo and Atiku, reigniting one of Nigeria’s longest-running political rivalries.
The two leaders, who served together as President and Vice President between 1999 and 2007, have remained at odds over political and governance issues since their relationship broke down during the final years of the Obasanjo administration.
