Chairman Of Barau’s Media Campaign Team Resigns

The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has continued to lose strong followers, following the voluntary resignation of Comrade Abdullahi Umar Bichi as the Chairman of the Barau Jibrin Campaign Media Centre.

Bichi announced his decision in a resignation letter, bringing an abrupt end to his leadership of the campaign media outfit that has served as one of the senator’s principal communication platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His exit comes amid growing political realignments within Senator Barau’s camp in Kano North, where a wave of resignations and shifting loyalties has fueled speculation over the strength of the senator’s grassroots political machinery ahead of the 2027 elections.

In the statement, he expressed profound appreciation to Senator Barau and the Director-General of the Media Centre, BYS Shuwaki, for the opportunity to serve in the organisation.

“I remain grateful to Senator Barau I. Jibrin and the Director-General, BYS Shuwaki, for the opportunity to work with them and contribute to the Media Centre,” he said.

The former chairman also thanked members of the media team for their cooperation, loyalty and support throughout his tenure, describing the experience as both rewarding and memorable.

However, Bichi did not disclose the reason for his resignation, while the statement equally failed to identify a successor to lead the Barau Jibrin Campaign Media Centre.

As of press time, Senator Barau’s media team, headed by Ismaila Mudashir, has yet to respond to the development.

However, political analysts believe that the waves of resignations in the Barau Jibrin cycle might not be unconnected with the Speakership ambition of the House of Representatives Appropriation Committee Chairman, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi.

Bichi believes that after holding the biggest House of Representatives Committee position of Appropriation, the next desirable position in 2027 for him is the House of Representatives Speaker, something that allegedly made him enter the Barau Jibrin cycle, causing mass resignations.

Speculation has it that Senator Barau Jibrin is still eyeing the Senate President seat after losing it to become Deputy after the 2023 election, although Senator AbdulAziz Yari from Zamfara State is also said to be pursuing the same position and is said to be allegedly fueling cracks in Senator Jibrin’s camp.

Senator Yari, who sorted out with Akpabio in 2023 on the Position of the Senate President position, also sees Barau Jibrin’s ambition for him in 2027 as a stumbling block and took an early fight against the Deputy Senate President.
